AETHER CANVAS® ATELIER OBJECTS
Youlan — Chanhua Silk Hair Fork
Every leaf is shaped with copper wire and wound in mulberry silk, turn by turn, by hand.

Made entirely by hand. Small variations in the silk turns, leaf curve and shell centre are part of the piece.
Object Facts
Craft: Traditional chanhua silk-wrapping, made entirely by hand.
Materials: Mulberry silk, tarnish-resistant copper and natural mother-of-pearl.
Dimensions: Approx. 19 × 8 cm overall; leaf approx. 3 cm; metal fork approx. 13 cm.
Construction: Each silk-wound leaf is formed around a fine internal wire, then joined into the spray by hand.
Origin: Made in China; every piece varies slightly by hand.
The 13 cm fork is best suited to shoulder-length hair and longer. Very fine hair holds better over a small elastic. Keep the silk dry, apply perfume before wearing, and store the piece in its box. If a leaf moves out of line, gently bend it back with your fingers.
Each piece is wound to order. Allow 7–10 studio days before dispatch; transit time is shown at checkout. Duties and taxes are calculated at checkout. Returns and exchanges follow the store policy shown in the footer.

How It Is Worn
Twist, push through, turn a quarter and let go.
Gather the hair low, twist it once, then slide the fork through the twist so the tip catches the hair underneath. A quarter turn locks it in place.
- Works with a low chignon, French twist or half-up knot.
- The 13 cm fork suits shoulder-length hair and longer.
- Leaves and tendrils can be gently posed by hand.
FINAL ASSEMBLY · ENTIRELY BY HAND
Finishing Youlan by Hand
Silk-wrapped leaves, fine wire branches and moving drops are brought into balance through careful hand shaping.

FINAL ASSEMBLY
Balancing the final form
Each silk-wrapped leaf is positioned and secured by hand. The maker refines the curve of the spray, tightens the fine wire joins and checks the moving drops so the finished piece feels balanced from every angle.

Size & Weight
Overall: approx. 19 × 8 cm (7.5 × 3.1 in)
Leaf spray: approx. 8 cm across
Fork: approx. 13 cm (5.1 in)
Leaves: approx. 3 cm each
Silk over wire keeps the ornament visually generous without the drag of cast metal.
Trusted & Recognized
It holds by tension, not by clamping. Twist the hair once, slide the fork through the twist so the tip catches hair underneath, then turn it a quarter turn. The 13 cm fork works best on shoulder-length hair and longer; very fine hair benefits from a small elastic underneath.
The silk is wound tightly over a paper form with wire inside, so each leaf is a shaped body rather than loose thread. Keep it dry and apply perfume before wearing. If a leaf moves, gently bend it back into place.
Wipe the gold-toned copper with a soft dry cloth after wear and return the piece to its box. Avoid damp storage, perfume spray and household cleaners.
The overall design, colour and dimensions follow the photographs. Because every leaf is wound and shaped by hand, the curve of individual leaves and the natural shell centre will vary slightly.

Every layer was protected, and the presentation kept the artwork feeling special from the moment it arrived.

The studio shared photos of the finished piece before packing, which made the made-to-order process feel considered.

Photos honestly do not do it justice. The relief catches afternoon light and the surface seems to move.

The mineral surface and frame have enough presence to sit comfortably beside larger gallery pieces.

The water tones brought a calm focal point to a space that had always felt unresolved.

Morning light softens the blue. Evening light brings the raised silver lines forward.

It does not overwhelm the room, yet it is the first detail guests notice.

The deep-set white frame gives the small canvas the breathing room of a much larger work.

Love the meaning behind these pieces. I got one as a wedding gift for a friend who had just bought her first apartment. She sent a photo of it on her wall the same evening.

The details and colours are gorgeous in person. The packaging and service were excellent too.
