Rooted in five thousand years of Eastern wisdom. Alive in the spaces where you live .

In Eastern philosophy, the Five Elements (五行) — Wood (木), Fire (火), Earth (土), Metal (金), and Water (水) — are not simply categories of nature. They are the living forces that shape the quality of every space, every body, every moment. Qi (氣), the vital energy that flows through all things, moves through these elemental forms.

Where AetherCanvas® Begins

AetherCanvas® was born from a simple belief: that this ancient understanding of energy and harmony belongs not only in philosophy, but on the walls of the places where we live.

We work with natural minerals and time-honoured techniques to create textured canvases that carry elemental presence. Not decoration. Presence. A piece that brings the stillness of Earth into a restless home. A surface that holds the clarity of Water in a cluttered mind.

Materials Born from the Earth

Lapis Lazuli  ·  Turquoise  ·  Kaolin Clay

Each AetherCanvas® piece begins not with a brush, but with a stone. Lapis Lazuli. Turquoise. Kaolin Clay. These are materials that have existed for millennia — shaped by geological time, carried by ancient trade routes, used in the sacred art of palaces and temples. They arrive with their own quiet energy. We do not impose upon them. We listen, and let their nature speak.

Handcrafted with Heritage

Made by Hand. Shaped by Generations.

Every AetherCanvas® piece is entirely handmade, a way of honoring the tradition from which it comes. Our artisans practice forms of craft passed down across millennia: techniques once reserved for the devotional art of temples and the ornate interiors of imperial palaces.

Gold leaf, laid sheet by paper-thin sheet. Chinese lacquer, built up in layers until it seems to breathe. Every gesture is a conversation between the maker, the material, and generations of inherited knowledge.

Gold Leaf — The Alchemy of Patience

Intangible Cultural Heritage Craft

An ancient gold-leaf forging craft originating in the Eastern Jin dynasty (317 CE) and carried forward for over one thousand seven hundred years, inheriting a millennia-long Eastern tradition of master craftsmanship in precious metals. Premium gold is selected as the raw material and passes through twelve stages of work, six to eight hours of refined smelting, and a cumulative total of more than thirty-six thousand hand-strikes, beaten thin to 0.1 microns, the texture of a cicada's wing. Artisans then carefully apply and spread it by hand, producing warm, fine, weighty yet restrained gilded layers of noble depth.

In the Eastern understanding of the Five Elements, gold carries the energy of Metal: the quality of precision, structure, and quiet inner strength. A gilded canvas is more than beautiful. It is an invitation to clarity.

Lacquer — The Poetry of Layers

Intangible Cultural Heritage Craft

An ancient lacquer craft originating in the Han dynasty (206 BCE) and carried forward for more than two thousand years, drawn from primal lacquer trees of seven years or older. Across its entire lifetime, each tree yields only about ten kilograms of natural raw lacquer. Through more than twenty layers of careful application, paired with repeated shadow-drying and polishing, it settles into a warm, restrained lacquer-base texture.
